Tourney Time

The Lady Commodores will be kicking off their post-season tonight as they take on 11th seeded Florida at 8:30 CT at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, GA.

We all know that the Commodores will be looking to rebound from a particularly tough loss to rival Tennessee, and there's no better team to take it out on than ever-so hated Florida. Florida has gotten a couple of nice surprises this season, but it's hard to ignore the fact that we are 25-4 this year and Florida is 9-21. However, Florida advances to play us off of an upset win over 6-seeded Mississippi State and the Gators are winners of three of their last four. Head coach Carolyn Peck was told that she would not be coaching the team next year after a 13 game skid, but agreed to coach the rest of the season and essentially has nothing to lose.

Players who will be key to stop are Marshae Dotson and Sha Brooks. Dotson had 25 points and 11 boards against Miss. State, and Brooks added to the total by contributing 16. To be honest, that's all we really need to be concerned about. The fact of the matter is that we are way more talented than this team. We just have to want it more. With two first team and one second team All-SEC players, there's no reason this game should be a concern for us unless we allow it to be. That being said, it's vital that the girls play their best basketball and not look forward to the winner of Kentucky-Georgia, who the winner of this game will face in the next round.

Luckily for us, losing to Tennessee has left the girls hungry for success. "We don't want to see that happen again," Caroline Williams told Will Matthews of vucommodores.com, "We got a bad taste in our mouth after that game. So we will come in and practice and do what we have to do to not let that happen again." I believe that to be the case, and I feel sorry for the poor Gators who are going to feel their wrath.
