Commies Look to Bounce Back against Blue Raiders

To be honest, there’s not much here really. The Commies have started SEC play and current sit 3-3 in the league. Corbin needs to have his guys fired up to get back and track before they play the team that swiped our No. 1 ranking, South Carolina. As such, this preview is relatively short as I devote most of my time to a) not getting fired and, b) the South Carolina preview.

The Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) Blue Raiders (13-14, 6-3 [Sun Belt]) travel west on I-40 today for a showdown with our No. 3 Commies. The Blue Raiders look to ride some momentum into Nashville after beating their rival, Austin Peay, in the bottom of ninth, while the Commies look to get back on track after dropping an SEC series against Arkansas last weekend.

The Blue Raiders come into Nashville on the backs of Wayne Kendrick, Adam Warren, and Rawley Bishop. The trio is hitting almost .300 combined, account for nearly 40% of the teams' hits, and 41% of the teams' RBIs. Bishop leads the Blue Raiders with 7 home runs. After those three, the offensive numbers fall off substantially. As a team, the Blue Raiders are batting .290

The Blue Raider starter has not been announced yet, but if I had to guess (completely unfounded, by the way), I’d have to go with either Brett Smalley (1-3, 3.86) or Matt Scott (2-2, 4.14). I’ll update the 7,8, 9 readers if and when the starter is announced.
Brett Jacobson (4-1, 3.18) has been named the starter for Vandy and will take to the hill around 6 pm for the first pitch.

Despite the Commies losing last season’s series against the newly ranked No. 7 Hogs, is it too early to start thinking about Omaha? There’s a nice little preview of the potential 8 teams here and it will be updated every two weeks. Right now, Vandy is one of THREE SEC teams jostling for position on the Road to Omaha.
